The Confessions of a Shopaholic
Shop until you drop, a well known phrase that Rebecca Bloomwood lives by. With each swipe of her card and each new bag filled with new material possessions that is placed in her hand the more content she becomes. In an attempt to fill a void in her life, Rebecca Bloomwood becomes a shopaholic. She buys and buys and buys more with the hope that one day it will help fill that loneliness she is feels within. “A store can awaken a lust for things you never even knew you needed” (Confessions of a Shopaholic). No matter how much she buys, no matter how much it cost, whatever she walks away with at the end of her shop, no matter what she has lying around at home, it is never good enough. Despite the satisfaction the purchase provides her at the time, it always ends up impacting her in the long run. In fact, at the end of the small clip shown Rebecca Bloomwood is displayed flabbergasted due to the amount of debt her addiction to shopping has put her in.
This artifact proves that no matter how much clothing Rebecca Bloomwood has purchased, it is never enough to fill that lonely void within her. She shops until she drops, but in the end the short-term satisfactory feeling hurts her in the long run. What I’m trying to say is no matter how much is in her hands at the end of the day, it is never good enough. No matter how much she has, she still is not happy with the life she is living or who she is in the end.
