No More Drama
Written by Mary J. Blige, the song “No More Drama” disputes the idea that America is always searching for more. “No More Drama” is a song about going through hard times and moving on from the pain. Mary J. Blige leaked to the Daily Telegraph that each time she performs this song all the drama and pain she has experienced throughout her life, “... of being a child growing up in the projects, getting robbed, grown-ups snatching our trick-or-treating bags, being shot at, having to fight physically every day of your life, going home to alcoholic aunts and every woman around you being beaten so badly by men you can't even understand it, and then growing up and realizing you're repeating all those patterns, you're drinking the alcohol and doing the drugs and being abused by men, and the pain and frustration of not being able to stop it” spills out into her performance. She wrote this song to remember all of these horrible things she has experienced and to remind herself that she needs to move on from drama. It reminds her that drama merely tears her life apart and by staying away from it she is able to live a happier and healthier life.
I think that we can all agree that drama does nothing but cause stress and unhappiness within your life. It’s something we can most definitely deal without. As funny as it may be to joke about, drama is a serious matter. No matter how big or small the situation may be no one wants to be involved in drama because in the end it only leads to hurt feelings and trouble. No one is on the search to be hurt or to look at life negatively and by being involved in drama, it can lead you going down the wrong path. As Mary J. Blije repeats throughout the song, “No more drama” she is sending the message to end all ties with drama. She has enough of it in her life and she is ready for all the pain and hurt that is associated with drama to end. And I believe that is something we can all agree on: no more drama.
