Materialism
Materialism; a tendency to consider material possessions and physical comfort as more important than spiritual values. Illustrated in the artifact is a man standing on a huge heap of “stuff”. Although he has all of this “stuff”, including a car, a camera, a television, a phone, and so much more he is never truly satisfied with what he has. The man continues to buy and buy and buy in an effort to fill a void of unhappiness in his life, yet no matter how much he has, no matter how much his money can buy it is never good enough to fill that void. Regardless of all of the material possessions that lay beneath the man, he will never be happy. He will continue to buy and buy, building up the heap taller and taller, yet that void within him will never be filled. As life progresses the man will continue looking to buy the next best thing in an attempt to put a smile on his face because despite the amount of things he owns it's never good enough to satisfy his needs for happiness. |
